Every artist knows the sting: a four-hour session on the calendar, a message at the last minute and a cold chair. A deposit does not remove that risk entirely, but it changes who carries it. The client has money in the booking, and the artist’s time is paid for before the day begins.
Deposits belong after the consult, not before
Tattoo work starts with a conversation: placement, size, style and reference images. Asking for money before that exchange feels cold; asking after it feels fair. So the booking path on your site goes from a consult request to a short design brief, and only then to a deposit link for the artist who accepted the job.
That also helps with the question of which artist. Each artist can have their own booking path, so the deposit goes to the right chair, not a shared inbox.
What the brief form should capture
- ✓Placement and approximate size — a simple dropdown beats a free text box
- ✓Reference images — a link or upload, so the artist sees what the client has in mind
- ✓Preferred artist and date range — with a note when someone is flexible
- ✓Age and ID reminders — stated plainly, as your studio requires
What the policy page should cover
The deposit policy is the part most worth writing carefully. State whether the deposit comes off the final price, whether it is transferable to a new date, and how much notice you need for a reschedule. Write it in the tone your studio already speaks in, short and direct.
We place a summary beside the pay button and a longer page one tap away. We connect the payment tool you use or help set up Square, and the processor’s fees are its own. We do not write legal terms, and what you refund is your decision.
Ahead of launch, decide these
- ✓Deposit amount per artist or flat — some artists charge more for large work
- ✓Reschedule notice window — for example, 48 hours, written in days
- ✓Touch-up and free-session rules — say whether a deposit applies
- ✓Convention and flash day terms — separate wording if you run special events
What to expect, honestly
- ✓We do not manage artist calendars — you confirm each date on your own
- ✓We do not set studio policies — you decide, we make them readable
- ✓We do not give health advice — aftercare content is your own wording
