Most church websites are written by people who already attend. They know where to park, which door to use and that the early service is quieter. The person reading on a Saturday night knows none of that. This guide describes a strong congregation website page by page, with the reasons behind each choice, so your team can plan its own without copying anyone else’s.
It fits a single congregation with one or two weekend services, a few ministries, a children’s program and members who give both in person and online.
The homepage answers three questions first
When and where is the next service, what should I expect, and is there a place for my kids. Put service times and the street address in the first screen, written as text rather than inside an image so they can be read aloud and found by search. Below that, a Plan Your Visit button, a short welcome from the pastor and the next two or three dated events. Livestream and sermon links come next for members who watch from home.
The Plan Your Visit page, section by section
- ✓Arrival — which entrance to use, where to park and whether greeters are at the door
- ✓What happens — length of the service, music style and whether communion is offered
- ✓Children — check-in process, age groups and how parents are reached during the service
- ✓Accessibility — step-free entrances, seating and hearing assistance where available
- ✓What to wear — one honest sentence settles a worry many visitors never ask aloud
The rest of the site and what each page does
An About page states beliefs in plain words, names the denomination or network if there is one, and introduces the pastors and staff with roles. A Ministries page lists each group with who it is for, when it meets and a contact form route to its leader. An Events page holds dated listings that expire. A Sermons or Media page links to your video or podcast host. A Give page explains briefly how gifts are used and then sends people to your chosen giving platform. A Contact page lists office hours and a general form for prayer requests or questions.
Some congregations add a page for weddings, funerals or facility use with the policies the leadership has approved.
Where giving tools begin and end
- ✓Your giving platform processes gifts — we link or embed the tool your church already uses, or help set up Square
- ✓Fees belong to that provider — card processing costs are set by the giving platform, not by us
- ✓Donor records stay there — giving history and statements are managed inside that tool
- ✓Year-end statements — your treasurer or giving platform produces these, not the website
Common mistakes on church sites
Service times hidden on an inner page or inside a flyer graphic. A calendar full of last season’s events. Ministry pages naming a leader who left two years ago. A prayer request form that asks for more personal detail than anyone needs and sends it to a shared inbox. Photos of children posted without parental permission. A giving page with no explanation of what the gifts support. Each of these is easy to fix once someone owns the update list.
Plan fit and upkeep
A small congregation with one service and a few ministries can fit the Launch Website at $399 for up to 5 pages. A church with separate ministry pages, sermon archives and facility information usually fits Business Plus at $989 for up to 20 pages. With Website Care at $30/month, the office sends weekly changes such as a holiday schedule or a new event, and we post them within the 30 minutes of small edits included each month.
What to expect, honestly
- ✓We do not process gifts — the giving platform you choose handles payments, fees and donor records
- ✓We do not build member directories or logins — we link to your church management tool if you use one
- ✓We publish beliefs and policies as your leadership writes or approves them — we do not draft doctrine
