Owners often start planning a website by listing pages they have seen on other sites. A better starting point is listing the questions customers ask before they hire you. Every important question needs a home on the site, and a page is simply a home for a group of related questions. Plan it that way and you will end up with fewer, stronger pages that each pull their weight.
The core five
The home page answers three things within one scroll: what you do, where you do it and how to reach you. It also points visitors to your main services. A services page, or one page per major service, explains what each job includes, who it is for and what happens first. An about page answers whether you can be trusted: who runs the business, how long you have done this work and what you care about.
A contact page gives every way to reach you, a short form, your hours and the area you serve. The fifth page depends on your business. For a restaurant it is the menu. For a contractor it is a gallery of real projects. For a clinic it is what to expect at a first visit. For a nonprofit it is how to give or volunteer.
What each core page must include
- ✓Home — a clear headline, your service area and one main action button
- ✓Services — plain descriptions, what is included and how to start
- ✓About — real names, real photos and the reason you do this work
- ✓Contact — a working form, hours and the areas you cover
- ✓Your fifth page — whatever customers ask to see before they decide
Pages worth adding as you grow
Separate service pages are usually the first upgrade. A plumber with one services page listing drain cleaning, water heaters and repiping has one page competing for three different searches. Giving each its own page lets you answer each customer’s specific worries. See adding service pages for how that works.
After that come pages that answer recurring questions: an FAQ page, a pricing or how-it-works page, service area pages if you travel to several towns, and a careers page if you hire often. Add a page when customers keep asking the same thing, not because a competitor has one.
Small pages people forget
- ✓Thank-you page — shown after a form is sent, and useful for tracking inquiries
- ✓Privacy notice — explains what your forms and tools collect
- ✓Helpful error page — guides lost visitors back to your services
- ✓Accessibility statement — says how to reach you if something on the site does not work for someone
How this maps to our plans
The core five fit the Launch Website at $399 for up to 5 pages, which includes a consultation, copy we write for you, mobile-friendly design, a contact form and ten revision rounds. When you want separate pages for each service or each town you serve, Business Plus at $989 covers up to 20 pages, and larger plans go up to 300 pages for businesses with many locations or services.
Website Care at $30/month keeps the pages hosted, backed up and current, with up to 30 minutes of small edits each month for things like new hours, prices or photos.
Before you start writing
Spend ten minutes writing down the questions customers asked you this month, by text, in person or at the counter. Group them. Each group is a page or a section of one. Bring that list to the consultation and the site plan practically writes itself. Our website planning tool walks you through the same exercise.
What to expect, honestly
- ✓More pages are not automatically better — thin, repeated pages help nobody
- ✓Some pages need your input — real photos and staff details come from you
- ✓We do not write legal policies — ask your advisor for privacy and terms wording
