The email says your hosting plan is ending on a certain date, or the company is being absorbed by another one that is dropping older plans. It is easy to read it twice and set it aside. Do not. After that date the files can vanish, and anything tied to the same account, like your business email, can vanish with them.
Write down the date and work backward
Find the exact cut-off in the notice and put it on your calendar with two reminders. Then look for what the host is offering: a migration to a new plan, a downloadable export, or simply a shutdown with nothing. Each one changes how much time you really have.
Be careful with automatic migrations to a higher-priced plan. Read what you are agreeing to before you click, because the new renewal price may be very different and you may not want to stay anyway.
Secure these before anything moves
- ✓Domain registration — confirm it is registered in your name and not under the host’s account
- ✓Business email — find out whether your mailboxes live on this host, since they can disappear with it
- ✓A full copy of the files — use the host’s backup or export tool and download it to your own computer
- ✓Your logins — record the usernames, the nameserver addresses and the registrar details
Domain and email are the delicate parts
The website files are the easy part to copy. The tricky pieces are the domain’s settings and the email. If your domain is pointed at the old host through its nameservers, switching hosts means changing that, and doing so carelessly can pause your email for a while.
So plan the order: confirm where email lives, set up the new place for it if needed, and only then move the website. If the domain itself is registered with the closing host, ask early about transferring it out, because registrars can take days to process a transfer.
How we handle the move
We move you onto our managed hosting by rebuilding the site there with your wording, logo and photos, either from the old pages or from a copy you export. You can approve the new site before anything changes. Your domain stays yours and we point it at the new site when you say so.
Hosting, HTTPS, backups and uptime checks come with Website Care at $30/month, so you are not facing another surprise shutdown notice from a company you have never met.
What to gather for us
- ✓The shutdown notice — with the cut-off date
- ✓The web address — so we see what exists today
- ✓Any export or backup you managed to download — even if you are unsure what is inside
- ✓A list of what the site must do — forms, directions, booking links, anything customers use
What to expect, honestly
- ✓We cannot extend your deadline — the host decides when files disappear
- ✓Old data is not guaranteed — we work from what you export or supply
- ✓Email may need separate planning — it is not part of the site files
