You sent the request two weeks ago: change the holiday hours, swap one photo, fix a price. Nothing happened. Then a reply asked you to open a ticket, or quoted a fee, or said the next slot was next month. The site is yours, but it can feel like you need permission to change your own business card.
Know what you were actually promised
Dig out the original agreement or the signup email. Some arrangements include edits and some do not, and many say "support" without defining it. Look for words like "hours per month," "turnaround" or "change requests." If the document says nothing, that is useful information too.
Then write down how long your last three requests took. A simple timeline gives you something specific to bring to any conversation, whether you are asking for faster service or deciding to leave.
Questions worth asking your current company
- ✓How many edits are included — ask for a number of minutes or requests per month, not a vague promise
- ✓What the turnaround is — days, not "as soon as possible"
- ✓Who has the logins — you, them, or someone you have never met
- ✓What leaving looks like — whether you can export content or only a copy of pictures
What a fair small-edit allowance looks like
Most small business edits are tiny: a time, a price, a team photo, a new paragraph. They take minutes for someone with access. An allowance that matches that reality is a few short changes each month, handled promptly, without forms and without being treated as a project.
With Website Care at $30/month you get up to 30 minutes of small edits per month, alongside the managed hosting, HTTPS, backups and uptime checks. Larger changes, like a new section or extra pages, are scoped separately rather than squeezed into the allowance.
How switching works
Your domain is a separate thing from the company that built the site, and it is yours if it was registered in your name. We rebuild your site on our managed hosting using your existing wording, logo and photos, show it to you for approval and point your domain only when you say so. Nothing is switched off before the new site is ready.
We rebuild rather than copy, and the old company keeps their own tools. Your current provider does not need to cooperate for the move to happen, though a copy of your images and text speeds things up.
Gather these before you switch
- ✓The web address — so we can see what customers see
- ✓Registrar login or name — to confirm who owns the domain
- ✓Your logo and best photos — send originals if you have them
- ✓A list of current requests — the edits that have been stuck, so we do them first
What to expect, honestly
- ✓We do not edit inside another company’s tools — the new site is built on our hosting
- ✓Edits beyond the allowance are scoped separately — larger changes get their own plan
- ✓We cannot change what your old contract says — check its exit terms before you cancel
