The week before Thanksgiving, a butcher counter is a negotiation: how big a bird, which day, what about the prime rib for Christmas. Half of those conversations could be a form that already asked the right questions. Online ordering for a butcher shop is mostly about that, and about making a custom cut request feel like talking to you.
Weights are the hard part
Meat is sold by the pound but ordered by the occasion. A customer thinks "a roast for eight," not "four and a half pounds." Your page can translate: a short serving guide next to each holiday item, and an order form that says the final price depends on the actual weight at the cut.
We link or embed the ordering tool you already use, and write the page so that "approximate weight" and "we will confirm the total at pickup" are stated plainly. That honesty prevents the argument at the counter.
What a pre-order form should collect
- ✓Item and cut — roast, steaks, whole bird or a bundle
- ✓Approximate size or head count — so you can match a cut to the table
- ✓Preferences — bone in, trimmed, tied or sliced
- ✓Pickup day and time slot — so the counter is not buried at noon
- ✓Contact details — for questions about the order
Run the page like a calendar
Your busiest orders are tied to dates, so the page should be too. We set up a short cutoff line at the top of the pre-order page, something like "orders close on the Sunday before," that you update once a season. After the cutoff, the page changes to say you are closed for pre-orders and takes walk-in questions instead.
Bundles, such as a freezer pack or a grill box, get their own short page with what is inside written by you, since only you know what a fair mix looks like.
Claims to handle carefully
- ✓Sourcing statements — say only what you can document, such as the farm or region
- ✓Grass-fed or similar labels — use the exact label your supplier gives you
- ✓Availability — write "while supplies last" when a cut is limited
- ✓Special diets — avoid health claims, simply describe the cut
What to expect, honestly
- ✓Prices change with weight — the page can show estimates, not final totals
- ✓Stock does not update automatically — your tool or you maintain it
- ✓We do not process payments ourselves — your provider’s fees apply
