A homeowner typing "fence quote" into a form has usually done an hour of research: wood or vinyl, six feet or four, privacy or picket. If your form just asks for a name and "message", all that thinking is lost, and you spend your first call asking questions the buyer already answered.
The fields that make a fence quote possible
A fence is priced by length, height, material, gates and ground conditions. Ask for approximate linear feet (with a tip: "about 60 steps along the line is 150 feet"), the height wanted, and the material or style if they know it. A dropdown for "not sure yet" keeps early researchers from abandoning the form.
Then ask the two things that change the job: how many gates, and whether an old fence has to come out. Add a free-text box for slopes, trees, shared boundaries or a dog in the yard, because that is where surprises hide.
The form, field by field
- ✓Property address or town — confirms you serve the area
- ✓Fence type and height — wood, vinyl, chain link, ornamental
- ✓Approximate length — linear feet or a rough sketch later
- ✓Gates and old fence removal — both affect price and time
- ✓Preferred timing — this month, this season or just planning
How the request reaches you
Each submission arrives in your email with every answer in the same order, plus the visitor’s name and contact details. The visitor sees a confirmation that says what happens next and when, such as "we reply within one business day". Only promise a window you can keep.
We add spam filtering to the form so test bots and link pitches do not bury real homeowners. If you want a property photo, we scope photo upload separately so the form stays short.
Keep the form working
- ✓Send yourself a test — monthly, with a fake address
- ✓Reply fast — the first response wins more jobs than the lowest number
- ✓Review the questions — remove any you never use
- ✓Update your service towns — when you add a county
What the confirmation page should say
Buyers want to know whether a person will visit, how long a quote takes and whether the quote is free. Write those three answers in plain words on the confirmation. If you do site visits first, say so, because "we measure on site" sets the expectation that the number is firm only after that.
What to expect, honestly
- ✓We do not price jobs for you — the form collects details, you set the quote
- ✓Photo uploads are scoped separately — ask us if you want them
- ✓Permit and HOA rules are yours — we can mention them, not interpret them
