A community foundation is an unusual organization to explain: it takes in gifts from some people and gives grants to others, often through funds with names that mean little to the public. The website’s job is to translate. A neighbor with a modest monthly gift in mind should understand your giving options in a minute, and a small nonprofit should find the grant cycle without reading an annual report.
Translate the fund vocabulary
Donor-advised, designated, field of interest, unrestricted: these words are clear to your team and opaque to most visitors. Give each fund type a one-sentence description in plain language and one example of who uses it. We lay these out as a short comparison, with the donate button leading to your platform for the gift itself.
Monthly giving to a general community fund is the simplest entry point for many people. A short "start with a monthly gift to the community fund" block gives the undecided visitor an easy step.
What the give page needs
- ✓Plain fund descriptions — one or two sentences each
- ✓Minimum amounts — only if you set them, in your own words
- ✓Monthly option — a straightforward recurring gift
- ✓Professional advisors page — for attorneys and planners who refer clients
- ✓Contact for larger gifts — a short route to a person
Make the grant side easy to act on
Grant seekers visit with a task. They need eligibility, the cycle dates, what the application asks for and when decisions come. We build a grants page with a dated "next deadline" line at the top and a downloadable checklist if you have one.
Past grant lists and community reports belong on a separate page, because they serve donors who want to see impact. Keep the numbers and stories you publish to what you can verify, and we will format them cleanly without adding claims.
Pages worth building
- ✓Give — funds and monthly giving
- ✓Grants — guidelines, cycles and how to apply
- ✓Community reports — what has been funded
- ✓For advisors — a short referral page
- ✓About — staff, board and how the foundation works
What to expect, honestly
- ✓Grant applications run in your system — we link to it, we do not build it
- ✓We do not give financial advice — the page describes your funds
- ✓Payments are handled by your platform — its fees apply
