Plumbing searches happen at two speeds. One is the burst pipe at night, the other is the planned water heater swap a week away. Your site has to serve both, on a small screen, with one hand free. Here are the mistakes that make that harder than it needs to be.
Mistake one: the contact button is not where a thumb lands
On a small screen, the call button should be visible without scrolling and stay in reach as the page moves. A form buried under paragraphs about company history costs you urgent jobs. Put the call action and a short request form at the top, then the story below.
Make the form short. Name, how to reach them, the address area and a line about the problem. People with a leak do not fill in ten fields.
Mistakes in how you describe the work
- ✓"Emergency" with no proof — say it only if you really do respond to urgent calls, and say what the hours are
- ✓Services in one long paragraph — list drain cleaning, water heaters, repipes and fixtures as separate short items
- ✓No areas listed — name the cities or neighborhoods you actually drive to
- ✓Stock photos of unrelated tools — show your van, your crew or your own work
Mistake two: claims you cannot back up
Some sites list a license number that is out of date, or promise a response time the office cannot keep. Only publish facts you can document. If you want your state license number shown, send it exactly and we place it as plain text, but we do not write or verify it for you.
The same applies to pricing. "Free estimates" is fine if true. A flat price for a job that varies is not. Describe how you quote instead.
Fifteen-minute self-check
- ✓Open the site on a small screen — is the call action visible without scrolling
- ✓Send yourself a request — does it arrive, and how long does it take
- ✓Read the area list — would a customer in your outer service area recognize their town
- ✓Compare hours on the site, your listing and your voicemail — they should match
Mistake three: nothing after the first click
A visitor who sends a request and sees a blank page assumes it failed and calls the next company. Show a confirmation that says when someone will reply and what to do if it is urgent. That message costs nothing and keeps people from sending the same request to three plumbers.
What to expect, honestly
- ✓We only state facts you give us — license and insurance details come from you
- ✓We do not promise search rankings — monthly SEO is optional and never a promise
- ✓We do not run a dispatch system — the site takes requests, your office schedules the work
