You probably do not want to learn web terms. You want a site that sends you jobs and does not become another bill. Ask the questions below out loud and listen for specific answers. If you get a promise without detail, treat that as the answer.
Who owns what
Ask whose name the domain is under. Your company name is a customer address, and it should belong to you, not to the person who built the site. Ask where the site is hosted and what happens if you stop working with the builder.
With us the domain stays registered to you, and the site runs on managed hosting with backups, HTTPS and uptime checks. If you leave, the domain goes with you.
Questions about the job requests
- ✓Where do requests go — to an inbox you check on the job, not a form nobody reads
- ✓Can customers send a photo — ask whether the form can take a picture of the problem
- ✓What does the customer see after sending — a clear confirmation, not a blank page
- ✓Can I change the hours quickly — ask who does it and how long it takes
Questions about what they will promise
Be careful of promises such as "first on Google" or "double your calls." Nobody can promise search results, especially in a market with a lot of plumbers. A fair promise is a site that is clear on a small screen, has a working request form and is set up so search engines can read it.
Ask what you must supply. Services, areas, hours, a few photos and any license number you want shown. The more specific you are, the better the first draft.
Questions about money
- ✓What do I pay once — our Launch Website is $399 for up to 5 pages
- ✓What do I pay monthly — Website Care is $30/month, and it is optional
- ✓Are there charges for edits — small edits are included up to 30 minutes per month with Website Care
- ✓Are third-party tools extra — a booking or payment tool carries its own provider fees
Questions about the emergency side of the business
If you take after-hours work, ask how the site will show it without overpromising. A homeowner with water on the floor at 10 at night needs to know right away whether you come out tonight, tomorrow morning or not at all. Ask the designer how they would word that, and whether the emergency note can be switched off quickly during a week you are short a tech.
Also ask how the request form behaves late at night. The confirmation message should say plainly when someone will see the request, for example "Requests sent after 6 pm are read first thing the next morning," so nobody sits waiting for a reply that is not coming.
Questions about service areas
- ✓How will my towns be listed — a plain list visitors can scan, not a vague region name
- ✓Can I add a town later — ask whether that is a small edit or a new page
- ✓Will out-of-area requests be filtered — a ZIP code field can help you answer quickly
- ✓How is my business listing matched — name, address and hours should agree with the site
Listen for how they handle your existing site
If you already have a site, ask what happens to it. Do they rebuild from scratch, and do old page addresses forward to the new ones so links from your truck wrap, invoices and directory listings keep working?
What to expect, honestly
- ✓We do not verify license or insurance details — we place the facts you send
- ✓We do not guarantee call volume — that depends on your market and reputation
- ✓We build the website, not a dispatch app — scheduling stays in your own tools
