A portfolio is a strange project because you are the one who knows what is good, yet you are too close to choose. Years of work, files in five places, and the fear that cutting anything means admitting it was not great. A portfolio site is mostly an editing job, and then a build job.
Choose fewer pieces, shown better
Show your strongest work, not all of it. Aim for pieces that point toward the jobs you want next. A client skimming your site will remember your weakest piece as easily as your best.
Group work in a way that makes sense to the visitor: by type of project, by industry or by service. Give each piece a sentence or two on what the job was and what you did. Those few lines are often what turns an admiring visitor into a person who writes to you.
How to pick what goes in
- ✓Start with what you want to be hired for — select for the next job, not the last
- ✓Keep a clear standard — if you hesitate, leave it out
- ✓Show range inside a focus — variety without looking scattered
- ✓Add context to each piece — client type, goal, your role
- ✓Update it every few months — remove older work as better arrives
Image rights and fast loading
Only publish what you have the right to show. Client work may need permission, and photos of people may need a release. If you are unsure, ask the client; we publish what you confirm you can show.
Large photos slow pages down, which is a problem on mobile. We resize and prepare your images so the gallery looks sharp without making visitors wait, and we keep your originals untouched.
What to send
- ✓Your best fifteen to thirty pieces — high quality originals
- ✓Permission notes — which clients or subjects need approval
- ✓Short notes for each — the goal, the setting, your role
- ✓Your preferred contact path — a form for commission and booking inquiries
What to expect, honestly
- ✓We do not take your rights — your work stays yours
- ✓Selection is your call — we advise, you decide
- ✓Client work needs permission — you confirm what can be shown
