Accessibility means more people can use your site: those who rely on screen readers, keyboards, larger text or clear contrast. When you hire someone, you want to know what they will really do. Good answers are specific. Weak answers are broad promises with no detail.
Questions about the work
Ask what is checked while building. Specific answers mention things like keyboard navigation, readable color contrast, descriptions for images, clear headings and labeled form fields. Ask who performs these checks and when.
Ask what is outside the vendor’s control. Content you add later, third-party widgets and documents such as PDFs can all introduce problems that the original build did not have.
Ask for specifics
- ✓Keyboard use — can every action be reached without a mouse
- ✓Contrast — are text and background colors readable
- ✓Images — how are descriptions written
- ✓Forms — are fields labeled and errors clear
Questions about claims
Be careful with blanket claims. No one can honestly promise that a site is perfect for everyone, and anyone claiming full legal conformity without testing is guessing. A good vendor describes what they check and what they do not.
Ask how problems are handled after launch. If you report something, who fixes it and how do you reach them?
Red flags and good signs
- ✓Red flag — a promise of total compliance with no process
- ✓Good sign — a described checklist
- ✓Red flag — no way to report problems
- ✓Good sign — a stated process for fixes
Our approach
We build with a practical checklist covering keyboard use, contrast, image descriptions and labeled forms. We do not claim any legal or formal standard is met, and we suggest an independent review if your situation requires one.
Website Care at $30/month includes up to 30 minutes of small edits per month, which is useful for fixing a missing description or an unclear label.
What to expect, honestly
- ✓We make no legal claim of conformity — ask your own counsel
- ✓Third-party widgets can introduce issues — we tell you when
- ✓Documents you upload may need their own fixes — such as PDFs
