Many solo attorneys inherit a website template made for firms: a partners page with one partner, an attorneys grid with one face, a results page they cannot ethically fill. The better approach is to design around how a solo practice actually works. One person answers the inquiry, handles the matter and writes the bill, and prospective clients are often choosing that person as much as the firm name.
This guide covers scope, pages, wording and the consultation path. It is not legal or ethics advice; your bar’s advertising rules govern what your site may say, and you approve every word.
Solo practice versus firm: scope differences
A firm site has to explain who does what. A solo site has to explain how you work: whether you handle matters start to finish, how quickly you reply, whether you meet in person, online or both, and which courts or counties you appear in. You do not need a team page, a careers section or separate office pages. You do need a strong attorney bio, honest boundaries around the matters you take and turn down, and a consultation process that respects your calendar.
Pages a solo practice usually needs
- ✓Home — who you represent, the practice areas in one line and the consultation button
- ✓About the attorney — education, bar admissions you supply, years in practice and why you chose this work
- ✓One page per practice area — what the matter involves, typical steps and documents to gather
- ✓Consultations — how they work, length, whether there is a fee and what to bring
- ✓Contact — office location or meeting options and a short inquiry form
Practice area pages that actually help
Each practice area page should read like the first ten minutes of a consultation: what this kind of matter usually involves, the stages it passes through, roughly what the client will be asked for and when to reach out. Use the words clients use, not only the statute’s. Name the jurisdictions you practice in. If you do not take certain matters, say so and suggest the type of lawyer who does. That honesty saves you hours of unqualified inquiries.
Wording rules we follow
- ✓No outcome promises — we describe process, never results or likely wins
- ✓No invented credentials — only admissions, memberships and honors you supply and can document
- ✓No legal advice on the page — general information with a note to consult about specifics
- ✓Attorney approval — you review and sign off on every page before launch
- ✓Required labels — any advertising disclaimers your state requires are added in your wording
The consultation path
Most solo attorneys want inquiries screened before a call is booked. The inquiry form asks for name, a way to reply, the practice area and a brief, general description, with a notice not to share confidential details and a note that sending the form does not create an attorney-client relationship, worded as you approve. Conflict checks stay with you. If you prefer, we connect the scheduling tool you already use so approved inquiries can choose a time, and that tool’s fees stay with its provider.
Plan fit
A solo attorney with one or two practice areas often fits the Launch Website at $399 for up to 5 pages. With several practice areas, a consultation page and an FAQ, Business Plus at $989 for up to 20 pages is the usual fit. Either way you review the copy we write through ten revision rounds, and Website Care at $30/month handles hosting plus small edits such as a new court location or updated hours.
What to expect, honestly
- ✓We are not a law firm — nothing we write is legal or ethics advice, and you approve all copy
- ✓We do not collect confidential case details — the inquiry form asks only what screening needs
- ✓We do not build client document systems — we link to the practice management tool you use
