Some customers want something to print, forward to a partner or read later. A brochure, spec sheet or menu of services in PDF form does that well. The mistake is putting everything only inside the PDF, where search engines, mobile visitors and screen readers struggle.
Page first, PDF second
The information in the brochure should appear as normal text on a page. The PDF is an extra: a tidy, printable copy of the same material. That way someone on a mobile browser can read it immediately and someone who wants a copy can take one.
We add a clear download button with the file name, its type and size, such as a short descriptive label and a size note, so no one is surprised by a huge file.
Good candidates for a download
- ✓Service brochure — a printable summary for sharing
- ✓Spec or data sheet — details a buyer forwards to a colleague
- ✓Price list — where prices are stable enough to publish
- ✓Application or order form — a printable version of the online one
Making PDFs readable by everyone
A scanned image saved as a PDF is not readable by a screen reader and cannot be searched. We ask for a real text-based file, or prepare one from your source document, with headings in order and descriptions on images.
Old PDFs also go stale. We list the date on each one and recommend retiring versions that no longer apply, so customers do not rely on last year’s information.
What to send us
- ✓The source document — Word or design file, not just a scan
- ✓Final text for the page — the same content as plain text
- ✓File names — short and descriptive
- ✓Update schedule — when each file should be reviewed
What to expect, honestly
- ✓No PDFs as the only content — key information goes on the page
- ✓No design of print brochures — we use your finished file
- ✓No download tracking by default — add-ons are scoped separately
