A community center has the widest audience of any organization: toddlers, teens, working adults and retirees all land on one site. If the programs page is a single list, each visitor wades through twenty things that are not theirs. The fix is to sort by who the program serves and when it starts.
Sort by audience, then by season
Open the programs page with four simple doors: children, teens, adults and older adults. Under each, list classes with a start date, weekday and cost as set by the center. Residents recognise their category faster than they read a catalog.
Events, such as a health fair or a holiday market, sit in a separate calendar. They are one-time, they need a date and a place, and they often need no registration at all, so mark which ones do.
What each program listing should show
- ✓Audience and age
- ✓Start date and length — with number of sessions
- ✓Location in the building — room or gym name
- ✓Resident or non-resident rates — if you use them
- ✓Register button — to your provider
Registration and room rentals are different jobs
Class registration goes to your sign-up provider. Room rentals are a request, not a ticket: someone wants Saturday afternoon and has to be told yes. Use a short inquiry form for rentals and ask for date, group size and purpose.
We link or embed your registration tool and build the rental form. The center decides who is approved, and provider fees belong to the provider.
Before each registration period
- ✓Update dates and rooms — copy last term and change what moved
- ✓Remove ended classes — old listings erode trust
- ✓Post the opening date — on the home page banner
- ✓Check the rental form — send yourself a test
Term openings and fill-up
Registration periods arrive in waves, with the loudest around fall term and summer camps. Post the opening date on the programs page a few weeks before, so people can plan, and update the register button the day it goes live.
When a class is full, name the waitlist and how you will notify people. A short reminder about financial assistance, if your center offers it, belongs next to the cost in the same listing.
What to expect, honestly
- ✓We do not manage rosters — attendance and waitlists stay in your tool
- ✓No resident accounts — people register through your provider
- ✓Facility policies are yours — we format the text, we do not write rules
