Someone mentions they filled in your form last week. You never got it. Or you realize the last message arrived months ago and you assumed things were quiet. A broken contact form is hard to notice precisely because nothing breaks visibly. The visitor sees a "thank you" message either way.
Test it like a customer would
Use a different email address than the one the form sends to, so you know the message really traveled. Fill in every field, including the optional ones, submit it and wait ten minutes. Then check the inbox, the spam or junk folder and any filters or rules you have set up.
Test again from your mobile, because some forms behave differently on small screens, and try attaching a file if the form allows one. Keep a note of what happened at each step.
Where the message may have gone
- ✓Spam or junk folder — the most common hiding place
- ✓Wrong destination address — a typo or an old email from a previous owner
- ✓Blocked by the provider — the form sends from an address your mail host distrusts
- ✓Never sent — the form’s mail setting is off or its plugin has expired
Why forms fail
Many website forms send email using a basic method that mail providers increasingly treat as suspicious. The message leaves the site but never reaches your inbox. Other times a plugin update changes a setting, a spam filter becomes too strict, or the address the form uses was closed when someone left the business.
The fix often is not the form itself but how it is connected: sending from your own domain with proper authentication, and keeping a stored copy of every submission so nothing disappears.
What we do
We rebuild your site on our managed hosting with a contact form that is part of the package and tested before you see it. Submissions are sent to the address you choose and we send a test message from the finished site to confirm it arrives. You can run your own test on the preview before approving the site.
If you also take bookings, quotes or donations, tell us what you use today. We connect the tool you already have, or help set one up, and any third-party provider’s fees belong to that provider.
What to tell us
- ✓Where messages should go — one or two addresses is plenty
- ✓What you ask on the form — name, number, the job, or fewer
- ✓What happens now — the thank-you message or error visitors see
- ✓Last known good message — roughly when one last arrived
What to expect, honestly
- ✓We cannot see your old inbox — you need to check spam and filters yourself
- ✓Third-party tools have their own limits — their fees and rules stay theirs
- ✓We cannot recover lost messages — only fix the path going forward
